A good quality double carport looks great in front of any property and nowadays you can get carports to suit any type of house design.
Double carports vary in size from 5.5m x 5.5m up to 6m x 6m as far as the standard pre-engineered sized concerned.

You could off course get any sizes that your particular situation requires done as a customs size. Custom items however generally cost more than pre-engineered designed.
If you are not concerned about the design of the building but you are looking for a cost effective option, the cheapest set up is a skillion roof (the roof type that is higher at the front and slopes towards the back of the building) double carport. Generally speaking they are made out of either Zincalume or Colorbond (they are both trademarks of BlueScope Steel). Out of those two the Zincalume is the cheaper option.
If you after a nicer set up you would most likely want to check some gable roof carports out. They can be simple gable, Dutch gable or hip roof. These buildings are generally designed for the 6m x 6m size when it comes to double carports.
Any of the above types can be free standing or one or more sides of the building could be attached to your home. The pre-engineered carports are designed as free standing and if you are playing with the thought of modifying one of those (by attaching it to your house or something similar), please keep in mind that such a modifications normally void your warranty.
Carports are generally attached to your driveway or concrete slab with anchors (brackets and dyna bolts) not with the posts being concreted into the ground.
If you don’t have a slab or concrete driveway, you can use footings as well for most of the double carports.

Carport – an important part of the Australian Life!

Our lifestyle and climate here in Australia makes carports an important part of our homes. They are awesome to protect the car (or cars) from the weather and a fantastic thing to have when it rains or on those hot summer days to protect the car from becoming a pizza oven.

Gable roof carport

A carport can be free standing or attached to a building to one or more sides. In terms of roof type, they can have a wide variety of roofs including skillion roof, gable roof, Dutch gable roof or hip roof just to name a few.

They are made out of different materials however, steel carports are the most popular. They generally require Council approval so you will have to check with your local authority before you start shopping around to make sure you are clear on what you can build.

The other important factor is the wind rating of your area that you will also have to check with your local Council to make sure you know what wind rating your carport has to have to comply with requirements. The sellers will know the wind rating of the products but will not know what is required in your area.

Once you determined all the above and has a rough idea you can start shopping around for your dream carport that will protect your car from the weather elements and will add value to your property at the same time!
